Customized Hydroponic Channel System for Commercial Lettuce Farm in Saudi Arabia by Miilkiia

Customized Hydroponic Channel System for Commercial Lettuce Farm in Saudi Arabia by Miilkiia

Customer Location: Saudi Arabia (Riyadh)
System Used: Hydroponic Channels + Sponges + Rockwool Growing Media
Application: Commercial hydroponic farm / Supplying fresh produce to HoReCa sector (Hotel + Restaurant + Catering)

How the System Is Used
The farm operates on a continuous production cycle, supplying fresh produce to restaurants, catering services, and other food businesses.
The system uses hydroponic channels as the main growing structure, combined with rockwool cubes for seedling development. The farm focuses on growing various lettuce varieties and leafy greens, which require stable conditions and uniform quality for commercial supply.
This setup allows for:
• Year-round production
Efficient use of water and nutrients
Clean and organized crop management

System Layout & Growing Technique
The hydroponic system combines different structural designs to optimize space utilization and production efficiency.
The farm integrates:
• Horizontal (flat) hydroponic channels
• A-frame hydroponic structures

System Configuration
The system is designed to support both seedling and growing stages in commercial lettuce production.
Nursery Stage (Seedling Production)
Channel length: 3.66 meters
Hole diameter: 30 mm
Hole spacing: 80 mm (center-to-center)
Quantity: 260 channels
This configuration allows high-density seedling production and efficient nursery management.

Growing Stage (Main Production)
Channel length: 3.66 meters
Hole diameter: 50 mm
Hole spacing: 150 mm (center-to-center)
Quantity: 1300 channels
The spacing is optimized for lettuce and leafy greens, ensuring proper plant development while maintaining a uniform layout.

Sloped Channel Design (NFT Technique for Growing Stage)
In the horizontal system, the channels are installed with a slight slope instead of being completely flat.
This is a practical technique commonly used in hydroponic NFT systems, helping to:
• Maintain smooth nutrient solution flow
• Prevent water stagnation
• Improve oxygen availability to roots
• Ensure uniform nutrient distribution
Even a small slope plays an important role in maintaining stable production, especially for lettuce and leafy greens.

Crop Application
The system is primarily used for growing:
• Various lettuce varieties (such as butterhead, Batavia, Lollo Rosso, Lollo Bionda, Endive, Crystal)
• Leafy greens (sych as Kale, Arugula, Basil, Swiss Chard)
From actual operation, the system supports:
• Uniform growth across all channels
• Consistent leaf size, color, and texture
• Clean and healthy root development
• Stable output suitable for commercial supply
These characteristics are essential for supplying restaurants and food service clients, where consistency and quality are critical.

Supporting Components
The system includes:
• End caps and connectors
• Net pots (35 mm and 50 mm)
• Seedling trays
• Growing sponges
• Rockwool
All components are designed for compatibility and smooth operation from seeding to harvest.

Material & Safety
All hydroponic channels are manufactured using:
• High-quality PVC
• Free from heavy metals
• Food-grade compliant
This ensures safety for edible crops and suitability for long-term commercial use.
