Characteristic Description
1. Prevent algae growth
Research has shown that algae are less likely to perform photosynthesis in dark environments, which severely limits their growth (Ferreira & Martins, 2022; Zhang, Liu, & Zhang, 2021). Algae require light energy to convert carbon dioxide and water into organic matter and oxygen during photosynthesis, and the absence of light disrupts this process (Wu, Wang, & Zhang, 2020).

With proper use, black-and-white channels virtually eliminate algae growth, reducing cleaning costs by about 80%-90%. Occasional cleaning may still be needed, but overall, will save significantly.


2. Heat insulation

Research has shown that black materials have better heat absorption and retention properties. Lee and Kim (2019) demonstrated that darker colors enhance thermal performance by improving heat retention. Similarly, Zhang et al. (2020) found that black pipes provide superior insulation compared to lighter-colored pipes in greenhouse systems. Johnson and Moore (2021) further confirmed that dark colors are more effective at retaining heat in insulating systems.

Black and white channels maintain a higher internal temperature with less fluctuation in cold conditions (10°C), indicating superior insulation. Also, they show a lower internal temperature with less fluctuation in hot conditions (30°C), demonstrating better cooling performance. High-quality insulated channels can reduce planting temperature fluctuations, cutting heating and cooling energy use by 10% to 20%.


3. Chemical Inertness
The use of black color in hydroponic pipes effectively minimizes light-induced reactions with nutrient solutions, leading to reduced nutrient degradation and better stability. This characteristic leads to improved efficiency of the system and reduces maintenance needs.

● Chemical Inertness: PVC-U is free of plasticizers, which prevents reactions with nutrient solutions and reduces contamination compared to flexible PVC.
● Durability: PVC-U’s rigidity ensures long-lasting performance and support. Standard PVC is more flexible and less durable.
